Shania Twain starts the year with her Wedding!

Famous Pop singers and also one of my childhood favorites, Shania Twain walked the altar for the second time this New Year, and this time with her sweetheart, Swiss businessman Frederic Thiebau in Puerto Rico.

Twain might have sung the famous song ‘That don’t impress me much’,but her Engagement ring with 3-carat Emerald cut diamond by by Lorraine Schwartz is most certainly impressive.

Emerald cut is personally one of my favorites, It is basically a rectangular step cut with soft or rounded corners. The cut portrays a unique combination of style and sophistication and only looks good in gemstones of a certain size or more.

Bejeweled baby skull worth $50 Million

Here is a bejeweled baby skull that is causing much controversy in the UK. This latest work of Damien Hist has a real baby skull covered with diamonds in platinum. This sculpture that Hist has entitled ‘For Heaven’s Sake’ is the follow up to $100 million skull which he presented in 2007.

The skull is believed to be of a new born of less than two weeks from 19th Century. The skull in cast in all platinum and with more than 8000 white and pink diamonds by Bentley and Skinner Jewelers. The Diamond skull will be showcased at Gagosian Gallery, Honk Kong this month.

There have been many protest regarding using the baby skull to which Hist replied as "When you look at a skull, you think it represents the end, but when you see the end so beautiful, it gives you hope.”

It has been three weeks past the new year and it still takes to get adjusted to the fact that we are no more living in 2010 but 2011. Guess it is going to be few more weeks before I get accustomed to 2011.

But yes, the fact remains, and it is January; the month that has Garnet as its Birthstone. This gemstone is found in a wide spectra of colors but is mostly loved for their deep red hues. These deep red hue gemstone look absolutely gorgeous and were often found in antique jewelry. Even many of the historically famous rubies were later found out to be garnets.

Garnet is also one of those very few rare gems that is used untreated in jewelry. This gemstone looks stunning in all kinds of jewelry and complements all kind of metals and colors.

Even hundred of years ago the gem was greatly valued as it was believed that the gem protects its wearer from all kinds of diseases and brings him honors.
